It seems when it comes blogging these days social media is all the rage. With this in mind many ask does SEO mean social media? The answer to this is no and here is why.
Social media is awesome however it will never substitute for well written SEO optimized content. Great Keywords and SEO are ESSENTIAL for long term success. As a blogger it is much better spend time making a blog post that can be found on Google instead. Because social media is not designed to be a search engine which means your content is soon forgotten. Consequently this translates to not only lost income but a waste of time.
I would rather put my time and energy into making a blog post that people will find for years as many of my posts now do. Imagine having a blog post from 2014 still making weekly sales!
I get the potential of sites like Pinterest, Twitter, Google+ and Stumble however if these are your sole focus you will be lucky to have even short term gains.
Social Media sites change their algorithm much more frequently than Google and then what happens? Notably lets look at Pinterest, many people were left twiddling their thumbs after their most recent algorithm change in February of 2016.
If you relied on group boards on Pinterest you know this all to well. At one point it was easy to join a bunch of group boards and watch your content magically go viral however things changed and there were allot of unhappy bloggers and understandable so!
Again I ask how much of your traffic comes from Google? If the answer is less than half then you are at the mercy of whatever changes they decide to make. Placing your eggs in one basket is a recipe for disaster which I know about personally.
Many of you know about Squidoo and the masses of people who were jilted from the platform left empty handed after they changed their rules and eventually shut down.
So What is the Answer?
If you are one of the many in this situation there is hope. Although SEO and great keywords can feel intimidating it does not have to be.
